About Us

Hi there! We are a group of Physiotherapy students from Nanyang Polytechnic conducting a Statistics project to find out if our walking speed is affected by our average leg length (left and right leg).

This is very relevant to our daily life as we usually walk around 7,500 steps a day with an average speed of 5km/h.

Research has shown that Singaporeans walk the fastest in the world, with an average walking speed of 3.9 miles/hour (6.3km/h), further reinforcing our reputation as a fast-paced city.

However, we wanted to conduct further research to find out if our walking speed was predetermined by our physiques (i.e. short or tall), hence leading us to this project proposal.

Research Topic: Relationship between average leg length and walking speed
Research Question: Does the average leg length affect a person’s walking speed
Rationale of Study: To break the stereotype that people with shorter legs walk slower than those with longer legs.
